The VOXPOP platform was created to enable discussion, and promote debate. The way we fund ourselves is not by advertising to our users or selling their data, but by creating an experience for our users that is so engaging that museums and institutions will want to hire us to replicate it. As a result we have no interest in collecting, or using any of our users' data for anything other than the running of the experience.

 

However, modern web applications require that we collect at least a modicum of data, in order to provide a solid user experience and to manage the technical infrastructure. Please read below to see what data we gather and what we use it for.

DATA WE COLLECT WHILE PLAYING VOXPOP

EMAIL ADDRESS

When you create a session we ask the facilitator (usually a teacher) to provide an email address.

Why Do We Collect This?
Facilitators need a way to access the sessions they created at a later time. Remembering a long URL seems error prone and frustrating so we decided to email you the link so you can retrieve it at your leisure whenever you want. Unless you sign up for one of our mailing lists separately, we do not use your email for any purpose other than to provide you the URL for the sessions you create.  We only collect the email of the person that created the session.  We do not ask for or collect email addresses from students or players.

USER NAME

When a user (usually a student) enters a session they are asked to provide a name.

 

Why Do We Collect This?

Facilitators and administrators need to determine who has logged in to a session, and whether they have performed actions such as voting on a proposal. Additionally we need a way for users to resume a session if they've logged off or switched devices.

IP ADDRESS

When a user performs an action that changes the state of the session (e.g. the facilitator navigates to the next page, or a user votes on a proposal), the action is logged along with the IP address of the device the action was performed on.

Why Do We Collect This?

We use the IP address to determine what geographical areas our users are in, and to aid in debugging technical problems.

DATA WE COLLECT IF YOU SIGN UP FOR A MAILING LIST OR SUBMIT FEEDBACK

If you want to receive updates about VOXPOP and new role-plays, you can sign up for our mailing list.  If you sign up for our mailing list or submit feedback through a form on the website we collect some information so that we can contact you.  The only required field is email.  Optional fields include name, grades taught, where you teach and feedback.  We use this information to help us better understand our users and issues they encounter while using VOXPOP.  We do not share this information with or sell it to any other parties.

These forms are powered by Wix.com and the data is stored on Wix's secured servers behind a firewall.

THIRD-PARTY

In order to aid us in debugging and resolving errors that occur on users’ devices we use a third party service named Sentry. To the best of our knowledge Sentry is fully compliant with the GDPR and does not use the data it collects for any purpose other than alerting its users to errors. STATISITICS & COOKIES

The summary pages for the role-plays, as well as the Teacher, Partner and Contact sections of voxpop.io are hosted on the Wix.com platform.  They use several essential cookies to improve user experience and provide us with general trend information about how the site is being used.  To learn more about cookies visit All About Cookies.
